For many years, grants as specified in The Hodson Trust instrument have been made by the Trust to four Maryland institutions of higher learning: Hood College, The Johns Hopkins University, St. John's College and Washington College. In recognition of their relationship to The Hodson Trust, the four institutions have established scholarships for children of former employees of Beneficial Corporation and its subsidiaries.
Applications of children of former full-time Beneficial employees, with two or more years of service with Beneficial Corporation and its subsidiaries immediately prior to June 30, 1998 are given careful consideration for these scholarships. The selection of the applicants and other conditions of enrollment are entirely under the jurisdiction of the individual college or university.
Undergraduate and graduate scholarships (if available at the individual college or university) pay full tuition, exclusive of room and board. The scholarships are granted year-to-year. The term of the award and continuance are determined by the individual college or university.
If your child is interested in attending any of these institutions and you meet the criteria outlined above, a letter requesting application for admission and consideration for a scholarship should be submitted to the college or university as early as possible during the first half of the senior year in secondary school.
The applicant must include a notarized statement from his or her parent indicating such parent's relationship to the applicant, as well as such parent's employment history with Beneficial prior to June 30, 1998. In the event of death of the Beneficial parent, a notarized statement of the applicant will suffice.
Letters of request of scholarship should be sent to:
If you have any questions regarding these programs, please contact the individual college or university.
